How do I become a member of the Harris Poll Online panel?

Select "Join Our Panel" and fill out the registration form.

How did I become a member of the Harris Poll Online?

You may have become a member of the Harris Poll Online in one of several ways:

  • By registering directly with us through our website; or
  • By opting in to participate in the Harris Poll Online as a result of an offering made in conjunction with one of our many online partners.

If you were signed up in error or wish to be excluded from future Harris Poll Online mailings, you may unsubscribe.

In every email invitation, we identify ourselves in the header, explain how we received your email address, and describe how you can unsubscribe. We do not "spam" or send unsolicited commercial email to our panel members.

Who is in the Harris Poll Online panel?

Our panel consists of a diverse cross-section of people residing in the United States, as well as in over 200 countries around the world.

From what countries are panel members eligible to participate?

Panel members that are legal residents of the following countries: the United States and United States territories, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Spain and Germany.

Do I have to pay to be a member of the Harris Poll Online panel?

No. Membership and access to select Harris Poll Online surveys and results are free of charge.

How do I benefit from participating in surveys?

We are a point- based survey company. Members will receive HIpoints upon survey completion and attempting to complete; those HIpoints can accumulate quickly depending on how active you are.

HIpoints can then be redeemed for rewards that we offer, such as: Amazon, Kmart, Sears, iTunes and Instant Win Sweeps. We also offer physical rewards such as movies, books, and home goods. Please note that we do not offer cash options such as checks or PayPal.

 Also, members will receive automatic entries into our Sweepstakes, every time you partake in a survey.

How do I obtain a password?

Upon your first visit to the member site, you will need to retrieve your assigned password to login. You will then be able to change this password once you login. Your temporary password will be sent to the email address you registered with (and where you receive surveys).

Why is my password not working?

Our password generator does sometimes randomly assign passwords containing confusing characters (depending on font used, etc.).

Please try to copy and paste your temporary password into the required entry box rather than typing it (to avoid misinterpreting one or more characters). You may change your password to one of your choosing after successfully logging in, by clicking the “Change your password” link on the Member’s Home page.

How do I copy and paste?

In order to copy and paste information, please do the following: Set your cursor (arrow) at the beginning of the password you wish to copy and while holding down the left mouse button, swipe or drag the mouse over the characters you are copying. When you reach the end, release the left mouse key and click the right key. A list should come up asking you to cut, copy, paste, etc. Click copy and go to where you wish to put the information and again right click the mouse and hit paste.

How do I change my password?

  1. Log into with your username and temporary password (The ‘Login’ button is located on the top of the page).
  2. If you forgot your password, enter your username and click ‘Password Reminder’.
  3. Click on ‘Member’s Home’ on the top navigation bar.
  4. Scroll down and under the first paragraph click on the second bullet that says ‘Change your password’.
  5. Enter your old password (the temporary one that consists of letters and numbers) and the new password you choose.
  6. Your new password must be at least 7 characters long with no spaces. This is case-sensitive.

I lost my password. Is there a way to retrieve it?

If you can't remember your password, go to our Login Page enter you email address and select "Password Reminder". Your password will then be sent to your email address. It will be sent from so please be sure to add this address to your safe list. We would advise to check your spam/junk folder in your e-mail account for the temporary password also.

How do I update or change my personal information?

You may update or modify your registration information by selecting "Update Your Account" from our Member’s Home section.

How do I update my email address?

Please visit our Survey Help Desk to submit an email change request.

How do I update my physical address?

Please visit our Survey Help Desk to request a change of address. Please note that P.O. Boxes will not be accepted.

What happens if someone else in my household signs up with the same email address?

Only one person per household can be registered as a member of the Harris Poll Online as stated in our Terms Of Use.

How do I unsubscribe from the Harris Poll Online?

We appreciate your participation in the Harris Poll Online and encourage you to remain part of our community. However, if you would like to unsubscribe from the Harris Poll Online at any time, you may do so by completing the unsubscribe process.

If you wish to re-join our panel, you will not be able to re-join under the same e-mail address. You will need to re-join with a different e-mail address since we are not able to activate an account that has been previously unsubscribed in our database.

Please note that we cannot temporarily disable your account.

Panel Member Concerns

Does anyone have access to my personal information?

Protecting your privacy is of the utmost importance to us. For detailed information regarding how we collect and use your personal information, please review our Privacy Policy.

Why do you collect my home address?

We need to collect your home address for classification purposes; validation purposes, and targeting purposes. 

Why am I not receiving any survey invitations?

If you haven't done so already, please add us to your safe list. ISP's change their filters often which may cause your survey invitation to end up in your junk email folder or it may be blocked completely. It is a good idea to check your subfolders to make sure you don't miss any of our survey invitations. The amount of survey invitations you receive change everyday because survey invitations are sent at random, once they become available in our system.

Participation in Surveys

How do I participate in research surveys?

  1. When you click on a survey link in an email invitation, you will then be asked a few preliminary questions, which will help us determine if there are any available surveys best suited for you.
  2. If we have an opportunity available for you, you’ll then be quickly directed to the first page of that survey where you will be given details on the length and the rewards for qualifying and completing that survey.
  3. Once you are directed to a survey, there may be additional qualifications that must be met. If you don’t meet those additional qualifications, you will receive the option for us to try and locate another survey opportunity for you. You will be rewarded with an entry into the Harris Panel Sweepstakes for each survey you do not qualify for.

    If we have no available opportunities for you, please try again the next day. Our inventory of open surveys is always changing so don’t be discouraged if we cannot find something for you every time you visit.

What is the difference between the preliminary questions I’m asked and the actual surveys I get directed to?

In order to increase your chances of being selected for an open survey, we now ask you a series of preliminary questions or "screeners".  These questions help us match you to an open survey we have available; or help us pre-qualify you for a future study.  There are no rewards offered for answering these questions but they do help you qualify for more opportunities.  

If we are able to locate a suitable survey based on these screeners, you’ll be quickly directed to the first page of that survey where you will be given details on the length and the rewards for qualifying and completing that survey.

Why do some of your surveys have a different look and feel?

In order to increase the number of surveys we have available for our members, we now provide the opportunity to our panelists to participate in surveys conducted by a select group of research companies who have been carefully vetted by our team to make sure they meet our design and quality standards.  All surveys we offer provide the same incentives for participation (HIpoints + HIstakes Entries).

Why was I told I “didn’t qualify” for the survey?

We target several groups in our surveys, each with unique characteristics, so that we may compare and contrast the similarities and differences between them. In order for us to conduct valid analysis, we place quotas on the groups we are targeting. Since some of the groups share common traits, these particular quotas fill up quickly. Unfortunately, we are often unable to determine who will fall into these categories until after we ask several preliminary questions. For this reason, we are unable to inform you of the quota status until after you have answered some questions. Members who are directed to but do not qualify for a survey, can spend up to 10 minutes in a study before the study determines that you do not qualify. However, members will receive an entry into the Harris Panel Sweepstakes for their time.   Plus, you also will be offered the opportunity to try and qualify for another survey if we have any available at that time.  Please note that you may need to answer more preliminary questions to help locate another survey for you.

What happens if I do not qualify for a survey?

Although we now ask you a series of preliminary questions to better match you to an open survey, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to complete every survey we direct you into.  The good news is you will receive an entry into the Harris Panel Sweepstakes if you are directed to but do not qualify for a survey.  Plus, you also will be offered the opportunity to try and qualify for another survey if we have any available at that time.  Please note that you may need to answer more preliminary questions to help locate another survey for you. 

Why do you ask personal information in your survey?

We ask questions about your demographics, interests, employment, purchasing behaviors, and online usage to help us develop general trends about our panel. This information is used to conduct statistical analyses so we can ensure that our sample of respondents is representative of the general population. We also use this information to subdivide the panel into special interest groups and to send you surveys that are more pertinent to your interests and characteristics. We need to collect your home address for classification purposes; validation purposes, and targeting purposes.

Why do you ask the same questions over and over again?

We do our best to avoid asking you repetitive questions.  If you feel that you are seeing the same questions every time you visit, please check your Internet privacy settings.  Our surveys use Internet cookies to “remember” what you have told us in the past and learn more about who you are.  If your browser settings are set to private browsing or to erase your cookies, we will need to re-collect this information each time you visit us.

I’ve checked my cookie settings but I am still getting asked the same questions

Even with proper settings enabled, we may need to re-ask some questions multiple times.  Although it may seem frustrating, there are valid reasons for this, including:

  1. Some of our research requires that we word a question in a very specific way, forcing us to re-collect information we already know about you.
  2. Some of our research requires that we re-collect all survey information directly in the survey; even if we have already just collected it in our preliminary questions.

Although these cases may lead to repetition in your experience, we ask that you be patient and understand that you are helping us provide top quality results to our clients.

Do I have to participate every time I am invited to take a survey?

We encourage you to take a survey whenever you receive an invitation. We value each panel member's opinion. Choosing not to participate in a survey will not affect your membership.

However, the more you participate in our studies, the greater your chances to participate in exclusive studies, and special programs. These studies offer higher incentives.

Besides online surveys, what other types of research methods does Harris Interactive, the company behind the Harris Poll Online, use?

Harris Interactive conducts research using a variety of methods, ranging from online surveys and focus groups (chat room style or bulletin board style), telephone and direct mail to in person focus groups and personal interviews. We will also periodically offer our members the opportunity to participate in research that requires software to be downloaded to your computer or mobile phone. These special activities are completely optional but offer a great new way to provide your opinions and earn more rewards.

Who do I contact if I have questions or comments about a survey?

Our Survey Help Desk will be very happy to answer any questions you may have and they will listen to any suggestions or comments. Questions or comments about the design or content of specific surveys will then be forwarded to that survey's project manager. What are HIpoints and how do I earn them?

In appreciation for your participation in our surveys, we will award you HIpoints every time you complete select surveys that offer HIpoints. Once you've accumulated enough HIpoints, you may redeem them for rewards.

How do I know what my survey incentive will be?

Almost all of our surveys offer both HIpoints and a HIstakes sweepstakes entry as an incentive to participate. Once you have been selected for a survey, you will be told what the reward will be if you qualify for and successfully complete.

Will I still receive HIpoints if I do not qualify for a survey?

Most rewards will be credited within 10 minutes of your participation but may take up to 24 hours to be reflected in your account. If you are directed to but do not qualify for a survey, you will receive an entry into the Harris Panel Sweepstakes.

I think I successfully completed a survey, why are my HIpoints not showing in my account?

Most rewards will be credited within 10 minutes of your participation but may take up to 24 hours to be reflected in your account. If this time frame has passed you can contact the Survey Help Desk to research your concern. In order to best assist you, we will need to know the approximate time you took the survey, the topic of the survey, and if you saw a confirmation page upon completing the survey that confirmed your reward.

How do I see my HIpoints and redeem for rewards?

  1. Log in to the HIpoints website to see your current balance, account history, and sweepstakes entries.
  2. To see our rewards section, select "Reward Catalog" button from the top navigation menu.
  3. Browse the rewards using the "Categories" list or the drop-down list of reward by point value.
  4. As you hover your mouse over each item, you will be able to see a brief description of the item.
  5. Once you select an item, enter the quantity you would like to redeem for, and then click “Add to Cart.”
  6. If the item was successfully added to your cart, you will see a message along the top of the screen that says, “Item(s) has been added to cart.”
  7. Continue browsing and add additional items to your cart if you wish.
  8. Once you are ready to redeem, click the “checkout” link at the top right-hand corner of your screen.
  9. Enter your Shipping Information on the left-hand side of the screen, then click “Redeem.” You will receive a pop-up message that asks, “Are you sure you want to purchase?” Click OK.
  10. If the redemption was successful, you will receive a message that says “Thank you for your purchase.”

I am having trouble redeeming, what should I do?

For users accessing from a mobile or tablet device, please switch to a desktop or laptop when redeeming incentives. Double check to make sure that the internet browser that you’re using is up-to-date to the most recent, and current version or try accessing using another browser.

For members who are using Internet Explorer, we ask that you please try to adjust the compatibility view on the site.  Please follow the steps below to do this.

  1. Launch Internet Explorer
  2. Select Tools
  3. Select “Compatibility View Settings”
  4. Type in the “Add this website.” text box
  5. Click Add
  6. Type in the "Add this Website" text box
  7. Click Add
  8. Click Close
  9. Restart Internet Explorer

Do I have to redeem my HIpoints all at once?

You control how and when you redeem your HIpoints. You can choose to redeem all of your HIpoints, just some of your HIpoints, or you can continue to accumulate them for later use.

I have redeemed my HIpoints, how long does it take to receive?

You will receive your e-code within 24-48 hours of cashing in your HIpoints.  All e-code orders will be sent from Please make sure you safe-list this e-mail address. If you cashed in your HIpoints for physical merchandise, you will receive your merchandise via USPS. You will receive an email from with shipment tracking details. Merchandise orders are delivered within 7-14 business days.

However, if you do not receive your e-code, or you’re missing your USPS tracking number, you can access these in your account. Please follow these instructions:

  1. Log into the Harris Poll Online members site
  2. Look for “Recent Activity” on the Home Page once you’re logged into your account
  3. On the bottom of “Recent Activity” there is an option that says “More” and click on it
  4. Once you click on “More” it brings you to another page with three options on the left-hand side
  5. Click on the option that says “Orders”
  6. Double click on your order number
  7. From there you can access your Rewards

Do I have to pay anything to receive my reward(s)?

All costs for the rewards (including shipping and handling) are covered by Harris Poll Online. There are no hidden costs. You do not have to pay anything to receive your rewards! Please note, however, that panel members are responsible for shipping charges on merchandise ordered online via gift card redemptions.

How old do I have to be to participate in HIpoints?

Harris Poll Online panel members who are 13 years of age or older are eligible to participate in HIpoints.

Do my HIpoints expire?

Yes, ALL of your HIpoints will expire if your account remains inactive for a 12 month period. This means you must complete at least 1 survey or other research activity every 12 months to keep your account active. In addition, once your account goes inactive, we cannot restore it and you will no longer receive survey invites from us.

Technical Challenges

Unfortunately, we occasionally experience technical problems with our servers or surveys. From time to time, our servers may become overloaded when too many people try to access a survey at the same time. If you can't access a survey or it takes too long to complete a particular survey, you can always exit and finish the survey at a later time.

If you are experiencing a technical problem, please feel free to contact the Survey Help Desk. The Survey Help Desk will determine what the problem is and help you access the survey, or, at least, explain what is happening.

Why doesn’t my survey link work? What should I do?

If you survey link doesn’t work, we suggest you clear your cookies and cache.

Why was I sent an invitation if there was no survey for me?

You will receive an invitation when there are surveys available. After answering a few preliminary questions, we will be able to determine if there is a survey available for you. There may be times when there are no surveys available based on the answers you have given to these questions. We encourage you to try again the next day as our survey inventory is constantly changing.

Why am I not getting survey invitations? Why am I only getting reminders?

To combat SPAM, many mail servers and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use high-tech filtering devices to ensure that you receive as little or no SPAM as possible. We know how annoying SPAM can be, and we support efforts made to reduce SPAM. However, some legitimate email that you want to receive, like our survey invitations, may be mistakenly flagged as SPAM and never make it to your mailbox.

To make sure you continue to receive survey invitations, please add to your list of trusted senders. In order to do this, we have provided simple instructions for each mail provider below.

Why can’t I view the graphics in the survey?

If you cannot see graphics (which includes our forward arrow), please make sure isn’t blocked in your browser settings. You may also wish to try enabling Java script.
